About the Artist ...

Vincent Darby of Arnaudville, Louisiana is a self-taught artist who possesses the unique talent to see the beauty of South Louisiana and transpose it on canvas in his own special way. He has had no formal training, yet is considered among Louisiana's best natural artist. He has skills in perspective, fusion of colors and representational drawing that few artist can claim.
Darby's paintings and murals adorn businesses, restaurants and many homes; and he has clients from as far away as California and New York. He paints scenes he has know all his life, specializing in Atchafalaya Swamp scenes and old Cajun camps. In 1985 Vincent retired after a quarter of a century of service with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Since retirement he has finally found the time to devote to his self taught vocation, that started back when he was in grammar school, being an artist for his teachers and friends. He paints scenes he has know all his life, mistily lighted bayous with moss draped oaks, cypress trees, pirogues stately herons and prancing deer, old camps and shacks. In the past he has painted several murals, including one swamp scene that was ninety feet by eight feet. Today you will find him working on a back log of commissioned paintings. His studio is located a couple of blocks east of Bayou Teche and Hwy. 31 at 400 Canal St. Arnaudville, LA.  If you are ever in the area, make an effort to contact us, to include a visit to our studio.
